This last Sat. was my birthday...just another day as things went. But I was a bit depressed by it's arrival and subsequent departure. It seems that the day just keeps counting the years till the end of my given time. The closer I get to the proverbial "hill" the more I dread the ticking of the yearly clock that pushes me ever closer.

I've looked behind me, at the descent of my health, the damage of stress and the deterioration of my physical abilities. Even my memory and sharpness mentally have been effected over the last few years.

I fight the inevitable, but I'm not some celebrity with truckloads of cash to go to some fancy "body shop" spa and get the wrinkles ironed out, the flab tucked or the assets lifted. The years of struggle, to carve out a niche and support my family have left telltale signs.

I used to dye my hair as blond as I could, seeking to recapture the sun bleached style of younger days. But also because I could hide the multiplying white hairs that began to appear...in blond hair I could call them highlights.

But the blond of my youth turned to the natural golden brown and at times I'd give in and let it take over. And with money tight I've had little choice. Now the snow and silver are slowly taking over and the darker chestnut and golden browns are often intertwined with snowy white and silver threads.

I know that I need to try and get myself healthier, but despite the countless visits to the doctor and test after test there is nothing solid to diagnose. A random number of things are wrong, but nothing to link it all together...though I believe that the high stress I've been under for several years may be a large part of the problem.

It is easier said that done to remove the stress from ones life. I've tried my best to keep my center, but financial issues and shortages are far too frequent now. With the lost income from my cousin and the rise in expenses, there's a huge gap in the going out and coming in columns. No matter how hard I try, I have to admit that I'm still floundering as I try to establish some way to make some extra income streams.

I'm hoping that I can keep my focus, reinvent myself and find a way to get ahead this year. I need to make changes; I need to increase my income and find a way to make the changes I want happen. I don't know how, but I need to find a way to move forward.

If I could find the things I need without the cash, I'd do so, but somehow in a world run on paper currency, I am stuck having to amass as much as I'm able to get things moving.

For those that has passed that mid-life marker, I salute your strength and dedication to press on to find a way to reach your goals and dreams. So many have found the path to reinvent themselves in the later half that proves, there's no decline in life after 50, if you choose to rededicate yourself to the journey.

I've some years left to try and recapture that passion and lust for the time ahead, to enjoy the experience and not dwell on the eventual end that lays on the horizon. There's a million memories, thousands of tears and tons of laughter still ahead. I just need to focus on the gift of the day and find the joy to look forward to the surprises of tomorrow.

I am a 43 yr old single mother of four boys ages 23,18, and twins 11. My oldest son is on his own and my 18 yr old stays with my mother, My twin boys live with me. I do not reieive any help from the father but has money to take out his girlfriend every weekend. My one twin son has a prosthetic leg and is a Shriners Patient. He has been going there since he was 3 months old. My boys are doing very well in school. My son and I receive disability but that just gets us by a little. Our van is in dire need of repair so I can take them to drs, appts and free outings. I would like to start my own business with artificial flower arrangements. I have done 6 wedding for friends and they all say I should do my hobby as a profession. I cannot find any programs that will help me with my dream of doing flowers. The place we live now is alling apart and the landlord wont fix things. I know about the tenants rights but so many people get kicked out anyway. I would like to buy the place we are in eventually when my business gets going. I want a beautiful home for my boys and I want them to be happy. I have been through alot the past few yeaars and was at the lowest point in my life. Somehow I pulled through and now I would like to have a happy life and home for my boys and myself. I dont know who can help me get my van fixed or get another used vehicle and help me with my dream of starting my business. Can someone guide me into the right direction? I would be so appreciative and thankful. Im not a quitter and Im not giving up just because the father is not helpful. Hello my name is Spencer Hamor, I am a 16 year old student at santa barbara city college. I was born and raised in Santa Barbara, I grew up learning how to surf, skate, snowboard, and wakeboard. I also played all-star baseball and soccer when I was in 7th grade. In the sixth grade I decided to attend Laurel Springs, a home based school. From then on I home schooled and in tenth grade I dropped out of highschool to attend an Adult Highschool and graduate a year and a half earlier then all of my friends. I'm a 22 year old single mom.  I've finally realized that my baby's father (my boyfriend) is not going to be any support to our son in the future.  I know that I've got to bet a better education so that we can have a good life and I can give him the things my parents gave me.  I've made some mistakes in my life, but I'm ready to put the past behind me and look to the future.

Hello all, I am currently a stay at home mom who filed for divorce. For the last few years my stbx would leave and not come home for up to a week at a time, I later found out that he had a drug problem. I'm an intelligent person but for the life of me I don't know why I waited for 2 1/2 years before I made the move to divorce him. It took me that long to gather the strength. Well, since this time my stbx has taken all of our money out of our joint account and will only "take" me to the store to purchase necessities. It is humiliating, we are currently living together until the divorce is final because I have no place to go at this time.

I have goals to go to nursing school, write a book and continue to be an excellent mother. All of which are within my reach but I have no stepping stones for when the divorce is final. I'm so affraid of the divorce - my stbx tells me that I will regret divorcing him (in trial) but I have done nothing wrong in our marriage. This man was gone for 2 days prior to Christmas last year - not exactly what I want my child to ever have to experience again in his whole life.

I want to be able to get on my feet and get my son into a safer enviroment. If you can contribute - I will be greatful. I have no idea how this works - I have no intention of being needy the rest of my life. I have clear plans to help me attain the future that I need.
